Las Vicuñas National Reserve

Arika y Parinacota Province and Parinakota Province

Description:

Las Vicuñas National Reserve is a reserve located in the Arica y Parinacota region and Parinacota province in Chile. The reserve is located south of the Lauca National Park and from the south borders the Salar de Surire Natural Monument, which together form the Lauca Biosphere Reserve. The main peaks are Arintica and Pikintica.

Most of the reserve consists of extensive Andean steppes, except for river valleys and mountain streams, among which the Lauka River is the most significant.

The park is known for its large Vicunia population. These are graceful animals, similar to llamas, distant relatives of camels.
