Excursions in the port of Chacabuco: for groups with cruises
Description:
What can you see near the port of Chacabuco in the Aisen region, Chile?
Not all passengers of cruise ships traveling along the Pacific coast of South America, through the territory of Chile, are given the opportunity to visit one of the most remote regions of the country - Aisen. The fact is that few cruise routes go through the Strait of Magellan and stop at the port of Chacabuco, although these areas are the pearl of Chilean Patagonia. If you have a cruise stop – consider yourself one of the chosen tourists. Aisen is majestic nature, centuries-old evergreen forests, glaciers and fjords. I offer you excursions in the port of Chacabuco, the schedule of which corresponds to the schedule of your ship, and their program - your wishes.
Excursion from Puerto Chacabuco in the vicinity of the port of Aisen and Lake Elizalda At the exit from the port of Chacabuco – a small bay on the east bank of the fjord, which lives on fish farms, you will find a stunning mountainous landscape, and the second longest suspension bridge in South America – the bridge named after President Carlos Ibanez Del Campo, which connects our way to the port of Aisen: a town surrounded by mountains and forests, which crosses a wide river.
During the excursion from Chacabuco to Aisen you can buy souvenirs in local shops, and walk along the banks of the Rio Los Palos River. Crossing the river, you will see the virgin forest through which the road to Lake Los Palos goes. Here you will find a short walk in the forest by the lake before returning to the port, and you can get acquainted with the various species of wild plants and animals found in Northern Patagonia of Chile. The tour from the port of Chacabuco in the vicinity of the town of Puerto Aisen and Lake Elisalda lasts 3.5 - 4 hours - this is the shortest tour at this cruise stop.

Departing from Port Chacabuco via Port Aisen, we will make the first stop in the Rio Simpson National Park, in the reserve you will see an interesting litho-formation “Indian stone”, on the banks of the Simpson River. You will have about 30 minutes to visit the Natural Resources Museum. After that, we will stop at the observation deck “Alto Baguales”, which will give you a panorama of Kojaike and its surroundings. After arriving in the city, as part of the excursion from Chacabuco to Koyaika, we will visit the Shepherd Monument, the Regional Museum of Patagonia, the central square and the souvenir market. Then we will go to Virchen Falls, after which we will return to the port of Chacabuco. The tour from the port of Chacabuco to the town of Coyaike and Rio Simpson National Park takes about 6 hours, including the road.
Excursion from Puerto Chacabuco to Keulat National Park An astounding four-hour journey to the north of the Aisen region along the Carretera Austral road (one of South America’s most famous trails, which itself is a landmark), after turning at the El Viviana fork, the Austral road goes through a variety of landscapes, through the Cordillera line, and near the Keulat Reserve, down to the sea, at the foot of the Puyuapi fjord. On our tour from Chacabuco to Keulat we will stop at observation decks that will allow you to admire the wildlife. The road crosses the villages of Villa Amengual and Maniales. Some points of view are Las Torres Lake, El Gato Rock, El Condor Falls and Keulat Reserve with its Soaring Glacier Ventisquero Colgante.
In Keulat National Park, you will walk along the paths that lead to the observation deck, with a magnificent panorama of the glacier. Here you can wait, and if luck smiles at you, you will see the ice detach from it, falling with a crash into the abyss. Returning, we will stop at Puerto Puyuhuapi, where we will have lunch before returning to the restaurant with dishes of traditional cuisine of the Chilean region of Aisen. The excursion to Keulat Reserve from Chacabuco Port lasts about 14 hours and is available when the cruise ship stops at the port for at least a day.
Excursion from Puerto Chacabuco "Six Lagoons" - Lake Elisalda and Barashek on the fire in Lodge Tehuelche Our way lies on the Carreter Austral road to the Six Lagoons sector, near the Teniente Vidal airfield, 12 km from the town of Koyaike. Here you will see numerous lakes – traces left behind by the history of the formation of the continent of South America: volcanic activity and ice ages. You will find evergreen cold rain forests - a unique living ecosystem of the Aisen region, and Patagonia, which exists due to the climatic phenomena of southern latitudes.
The excursion from Chacabuco Port to Elisalda Lagoon with lunch lasts about 5 hours. Lake Elisalda is located 33 kilometers from Koyaike - it is narrow and long (25 km), as if trapped between the slopes of the cordillera: the lagoon became famous among travelers who are fond of fishing - since the seventies of the XX century, trout has successfully lived here. You can climb to the observation deck, which overlooks the mouth of the Rio Leon River. After a walk along the Pier of Rio León, we will return to Coyaica, where you will find the museum of the “first settlers of Patagonia” in the village of Rio Simpson, on arrival you will be able to taste the Patagonian lamb roasted at the stake, according to the local tradition, with a classic salad and a glass of Chilean wine. Excursion from Puerto Chacabuco to the port of Ibanez and to Lake General Carrera Departure from the port of Chacabuco to the South along the Carretera Austral highway to the town of Puerto Ibáñez on the shore of Lake General Carrera, the road that you will be on, has a length of 116 km, and crosses the ridges of the Cordillera, a hilly area overgrown with evergreen forests, and low shrubs on the other side of the Cordillera. At the entrance to the Sarro Castillo National Reserve, a stop is waiting, on the banks of the Chiguai lagoon, surrounded by snow-capped peaks, forests of South American Koigue, Nyir, and Leng, where you can often find the South Andean Huemul deer (a symbol of Chile).
At the highest point of Carreter Austral, we stop to look at the riverbed - the current Portesuelo gorge overlooking the Cordillera. Note that rivers here change their direction of flow, this is a phenomenon that is extremely rare in the world. In a few minutes on the observation deck of Rio Ibanez you will find beautiful views of Mount Sarro Castillo, a natural castle decorated with cornices of snow and ice. We are waiting for a restaurant and lunch in the village, after which on the pier of Rio Ibanez you can look and choose souvenirs made of leather, ceramics, knives, medicinal herbal collections, handmade by local craftsmen. Returning to the port, we will stop at the Rio Ibanez waterfall, located 8 km from the port.
