Puerto Montt

Isla Grande Island

Magallanes, Chile

Description:

On the border of the turbulent waters of Antarctica and the Pacific Ocean is a group of islands called Tierra del Fuego. The archipelago was discovered in 1520 by the famous sailor Magelan. But the settlement of this region began only a few centuries later. The first settlers were the British and their descendants still live in Ushuaia - the southernmost city of the globe.

Porvenir is the largest city on the islands, surrounded by a deserted harsh landscape. The sun appears here very rarely and most of the day there is a gloomy twilight. And although there are not many people here, the bare hills in the district are sometimes literally clogged with sea seals, penguins and flocks of migratory birds.

The city itself is a quiet settlement in which locals are engaged in sheep breeding and fishing. It has hardly changed since its inception. As attractions, you can visit the local museum and walk along the grassy banks of the Beagle Canal.
