San Pedro de Atacama

Death Valley

two kilometers west of San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

Description:

Death Valley is one of the valleys of the Cordillera de La Salle (Salt Range). Closer to sunset, strange disturbing sounds are heard, although this is not a danger at all - it crystallizes salt.

The unique landscape of hills and multicolored hills create formations of clay, shell sediments and mineral salts formed by wind and soil erosion.

Death Valley was named because in the past, anyone who crossed it would die. The evidence is the numerous remains of animal bones that are found here.

Death Valley, also known as the Valley of Mars, due to the reddish color of geomorphological and topographic formations.
