Fortress of Pucara de Kitor
Description:
The fortress of Pucara de Quitor is located 3 kilometers from the city of San Pedro de Atacama. It was built in the XII century and was intended to protect the local population from other cities of South America.
The fortress is located on the top of the hill Kitor, under which the rivers San Pedro and Rio Grande flow. Its walls are located along the hill and thus provide good protection from enemies around the perimeter.
All structures in Pucara de Kitor are made of stone, but despite this it is very well adapted for defense, it has watchtowers, rooms for storing food and shelter for the population.
In 1982, the fortress of Pucara de Quitor was declared a national monument of Chile.
