San Pedro de Atacama

Lasan fortress

45 km from Kalam

Description:

Pukara de Lasana (Lasan Fortress) is located on the banks of the Loa River, the longest in the country, which gave the name to the nearby village. This priceless historical and archaeological site is a National Monument. In the XII century here on the top of the hill was one of the most important strategic positions, which gradually overgrown defensive structures.

Despite the fact that from many buildings there are only bare walls, and where there are only fragments of the foundation, you can easily imagine the scope and grandeur of this place in the past. With a little imagination, you can easily imagine the original architecture of this place - narrow winding streets, rectangular and round buildings, small stone-paved platforms.

Fortress-fort is fraught with many legends and mystical stories, which are permeated all the time of the existence of Inca rule in this territory. Climbing to the top of the hill on the way to the fortress, you can see on the rocky cliffs and slopes strange and mysterious drawings and engravings, made with incredible care.

From the top of the hill there is a magnificent view of the valley.
