Santiago

Potter village near Santiago (including family tour)

Description:

The central region of Chile is rich in interesting places where the traveler can get a unique experience.

Forty kilometers from the capital is a small village surrounded by hills. The first families to settle at the foot of these hills were engaged in agriculture, but almost immediately found that they had more than the other inhabitants of the valley. It turned out that the main mineral composition of the soil is red clay, which has almost no impurities and is easy to process. From it, lightweight products of high quality of beautiful deep terracotta color are obtained: mainly, these are heat-resistant pottery (pots, pots, plates, vipers for cooking in the oven and oven). For centuries, all families in Pomair have been associated with pottery. The first pottery craft was done by the women of the family.

While the men worked in the gardens and fields, beautiful and high-quality glazed products came out from under the skillful hands of Pomairin masters. The fame of them quickly spread throughout Chile, and buyers began to come to Pomair. Since then, much time has passed, and production has become more mass-produced and women have been displaced by physically stronger men. In addition to traditional dishes, souvenirs appeared in the assortment of potters. Nevertheless, Pomairin pottery is one of the few preserved its qualities: all clay products in Pomair are environmentally friendly. They are manufactured and finalized, as well as hand-painted, dried naturally, and therefore the duration of the manufacturing process depends on the weather.

It is interesting that in Pomair everyone can try himself in the role of a potter, because this tour is suitable for families with children, and tourists who are not afraid to “stain” their hands with clay.
