Gabriela Mistral on the Andes. The translation, unfortunately, did not find, I had to improvise. This is the first quatrain, the complete work you can find under the title Gabriela Mistral I Cordillera. Dear travelers!
This tour is for those who come to Chile during the winter season, from May to October, when the high-altitude National Parks are only accessible with special equipment and only physically prepared - and they need a full day, and sometimes more.
If in the Chilean winter you want to get to the mountains in spite of everything, and there is not much time for it - I invite you to an altitude of 2500 meters above sea level, to the territory of the El Jeso reservoir, 90 kilometers from the capital of Chile - Santiago. Built in 1964, the El Jeso Dam delays the eponymous artificial lake with a capacity exceeding two hundred and fifty million cubic meters of pure water of glacial origin. It is the largest of five reservoirs in Chile’s central region, feeding more than six million residents of the country’s most populous city, Santiago. Part of the way the road under us will not be paved, and the last segment we will walk (the angle of the road is minimal, and you will not feel it), while walking along the shore of Lake El Yeso you can take beautiful photos.
The route is easy and even those who find it difficult to breathe mountain air, it will not be difficult. We will definitely have a thermos and snacks with which you can replenish your strength in time. If you wish, the tour can be supplemented by a bike ride along the shore of the lake (depending on the season and weather), on a separate request. On the road from El Jeso, we pass through the village of Cajon del Maipo on the picturesque bank of the river of the same name. Here, if you wish, we can stop for lunch (or dinner) in the restaurant of continental cuisine of Chile (meat) and try the famous Chilean pies "empanadas" with filling to your taste. The beauty of El Jeso’s landscapes, as well as the availability of a guided tour (the state of the mountain road) on the date you are interested in, depends on the amount of precipitation and weather forecast.
The best time to visit is from the beginning of June to the end of August, when there is snow in the mountains, although Lake El Yeso itself is incredibly beautiful and majestic in any period of the year. * This summer tour from October to March can be supplemented by a visit to El Plomo thermal springs.
