Santiago

Santiago for the whole day

Description:

We begin our excursion in the morning, visit the entire historical part of the city, called Santiago Centro - the Presidential Palace of La Moneda, the Square of Arms (the main square of the city), on it - the Main Catholic Cathedral of the city, we will see the most important buildings in the city and in the country, this building Real Audiencia (now there is the National Historical Museum), the Central Post and the municipality, as well as the monument to the founder of the city of Pedro de Valdivia and the Central Fountain dedicated to Simon Bolivar and the liberation of America from the colonialists.

The central market is one of the most typical places in Santiago, there is an abundance of fish and seafood, especially the Pacific eel of 3 species and the king crab, there is merluza, reineta, the well-known Chilean sea bass, a variety of mollusks, including the giant hibia mollusk, scallops and octopuses, among other things. And also here fruits are sold, in Chile there is a huge amount of them, in warm times (from September to late April to early May) - the season of delicious peaches, grapes, strawberries, in November-December the season of raspberries, blueberries and cherimoya, there are melons, watermelons, mangoes, the season of many fruits - all year round. We will also have a walk through the historic part to take photos, walk the pedestrian streets and just feel the spirit of the city. Here, in the historical part, is the hill of Santa Lucia, where it was decided to found the city in 1540, there is a beautiful square Kaupolican, which we will definitely visit. On the square there is an old gate, a monument to the Indian Kaupolican, and there are also baby araucarias, a tree in Chile that reaches the age of 2-3 thousand years! The hill is considered a very romantic place, there are a lot of greenery, flowers and sculptures in the French style.

We will also pass through the university district, where there are faculties of private universities and beautiful houses of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, this is the time of the first heyday of Santiago. We will pass through the districts of La Chimba, Independence, Recoleta and stop in the area of Beyavista - this is a former bohemian area, there are still beautiful multicolored houses with interesting architecture, poets, writers and artists have lived there since the end of the 19th century, now it is a tourist area, but there is still a house-museum of Pablo Neruda, one of his three houses-museums in Chile. Climb the highest point of Santiago - the hill of San Cristobal, it rises more than 800 m above sea level and from its top opens the most beautiful and complete panorama of the city and the majestic Andes, the average height of which at this latitude reaches 5.000-6.000 m. Next, we go to the “high” areas of Las Condes and Vitacuru, this is a completely new part of the city, which is much closer to the Andes than the city center with its historical part, there is, for example, a small area that the inhabitants of the city call Sunhatten for its similarity to Manhattan in New York, in these areas there are the best shopping centers and the tallest building in South America – Costaner Center, 300 meters high. Considering that Chile is a very earthquake-prone country, this is truly a Chilean miracle. Of course, we will see many other attractions of the capital - this is the oldest church in the city and one of the oldest stone churches in the country - San Francisco, the main street - Bernardo O'Higgins Avenida, Baquedano Square, the Museum of Fine Arts and other attractions.

Additionally visited: the market of folk crafts Los Dominicos. It is possible to take breaks for coffee and lunch. If you want to visit museums (there will be an opportunity to visit 1 or 2 during the tour) (closed on Mondays), there are: Museum of Pre-Colombian Art. Very interesting, there are collected objects of Native American cultures of the pre-Columbian era, starting from the time BC and ending in the middle of the 15th century, not only from Chile, but also from other countries of Latin America. Museum of Fine Arts. There are paintings and sculptures of both masters of modern and 18-19 centuries. The museum is small compared to the Louvre and Hermitage, but interesting, there are temporary and permanent exhibitions of the National Historical Museum. Located in the main square, worth a visit.
