Santiago

Santiago, lunch and winery in the Maipo Valley

Description:

Departure from the hotel at about 9 am (departure time is confirmed after booking a tour at the winery). The winery is located in the Maipo Valley about an hour from downtown Santiago, southeast of the capital. In the late 19th century, with the discovery of nitrate in the Atacama Desert and the victory in the Pacific War, a flood of wealth poured into the country. The local aristocracy began to think about where to invest it and drew attention to winemaking, the valley of the Maipo River - the closest to Santiago and in it - one of the most favorable climates for growing red grape varieties. That is why the Maipo Valley is home to some of the country’s oldest, largest, most respected and well-known wineries.

The valley is located in the foothills of the Andes, so you will not only visit wineries, but also picturesque places, on the way we will stop at observation decks to take beautiful photos. To visit are available wineries Concha and Toro, Causinho Macul, Santa Rita and others. Lunch in a picturesque rustic-style restaurant with typical Chilean cuisine. Then we continue the tour and go to the historic center of Santiago. Start with the historic part of the city. We drive to Armory Square (visit the oldest and most important historical buildings, visit the main cathedral of the city). We walk through the pedestrian streets of Huerfanos and Ahumada. Next, see the Constitution Square and the Presidential Palace of La Moneda, which was badly destroyed during the military coup on September 11, 1973. Drive along the main street of Santiago - Avenide Bernardo O'Higgins and see the oldest church in Chile - the Church of St. Francis.

We drive around the area of Beyavista - the area of bohemian, numerous cafes and cozy restaurants with sea cuisine. We climb Mount San Cristobal, which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the whole city. A sightseeing visit to the new areas of Las Condes, Vitacura, they are the complete opposite of the historical center, they are modern high-rise business centers, the Costanera Center building is one of the tallest buildings in the southern hemisphere, as tall as Sky Tower in Auckland or Queen Tower in Queensland in Australia, in these areas are the best hotels, restaurants, boutique streets, expensive private schools and cottage villages of very wealthy residents of the capital.

Visit the souvenir shop (optional). The final point of the tour can be a restaurant in the Bayavista area or the Los Dominicos folk crafts market, where the tour ends.
