Cathedral
Calle Bandera 499, Santiago, Regió n Metropolitana, Chile
Description:
The cathedral is the main Catholic church in Chile. Located in the central square of the city of Plaza de Armas, it immediately stands out for its majesty. The cathedral was built in 1780 and subsequently underwent many reconstructions. At the end of 1800, two more towers were added to the main part.
It is worth noting that the Cathedral is the fifth building on this site. Santiago is prone to devastating earthquakes and the first four churches were completely destroyed.
The current interior of the cathedral is made in the decorative Baroque style. Carved balconies, patterned vaults and a marble altar with bronze reliefs - all this leaves an indelible impression and is considered one of the most beautiful Spanish colonial cathedrals.
