National Historical Museum
Plaza de Armas 951, Santiago, Chile
About the company:
The National Historical Museum of Chile is located in the capital city of Santiago. It is located in the Royal Audience building built in 1808. This unique architectural monument of national importance is located in the historic district of Santiago, on the central Plaza de Armas, where the main attractions of the city are concentrated. The National Historical Museum was founded in 1911, but only in 1982 it received a permanent residence permit in the Royal Audience building.
It is one of the oldest and most interesting museums in Santiago, consisting of 16 themed halls. Today, the museum’s extensive collection of more than 1,600 exhibits tells the story of Chile from pre-Columbian times to modern times. Tourists can consistently trace the entire history of the country, its development by Europeans, active construction and development of industry and transport. Interesting are the expositions telling about the 1970s of the twentieth century, when Augusto Pinochet overthrew the socialist government of President Salvador Allende. There are even Allende’s glasses broken during the coup.
