Description:
Baja Cumberland Bay is located in the northeastern part of Robinson Crusoe Island, which is located off the coast of Chile. The island of Robinson Crusoe is part of the Juan Fernandez archipelago, which also includes two more islands. The islands belong to the province of Vilparaiso, which is part of the region of the same name.
From the coast of Chile, the bay is separated by a distance of 670 kilometers. Off the coast of the bay is the town of San Juan Bautista, which is the only settlement on the island. On March 14, 1915, the German cruiser Dresden sank in the bay, which received significant damage from three British ships. Currently, a monument has been erected on the shore near the place of the death of the cruiser.
The coast of the bay is a favorite resting place for guests of the island. This is facilitated by its location in close proximity to the town of San Juan Bautista, as well as clean sandy beaches and unusually beautiful sunsets.
