Viña del Mar

Summer Palace of Presidents of Chile

Cerro Castillo, Viñ a del Mar, Valpara so, Chile

Description:

Since its inception, Viña del Mar has been a favorite holiday destination. Wealthy residents of Valparaiso and Santiago wanted to get a house or villa on the coast, fascinated by the local climate and magnificent views. And the head of state is no exception.

In 1931, the summer presidential residence was moved from the Navy building in Plaza Sotomayor to Cerro Castillo. Local houses are distinguished by exquisite architecture with a strong influence of Spanish and Italian tradition.

Cerro Castillo is located in one of the oldest parts of the city and its main attraction is not the presidential palace. Most of all, the Palacio Brune Palace draws attention here, which now houses the Carabinieri (Chilean police).
