Unique representatives of flora and fauna, caves, mangrove swamps, rivers, waterfalls and uninhabited islands - all this can be found on a trip to the park. Interesting facts about Los Aitises Park: The rainfall is the highest in the Dominican Republic compared to all other regions. The park is the only habitat of the Haitian canyuc, one of the rarest birds on the planet. The word "Haitis" in the language of the Taino Indians means "high mountains".

The park is often called the Land of a Thousand Islands. On the territory of the park, the reality show The Last Hero-3 was filmed, as well as a number of scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean and Anaconda. According to legend, Los Aitises is protected by mythical female creatures - ciguapas. On the territory of the park, unique and very valuable pieces of amber with prehistoric fossils are periodically found.

Historical and mythical inhabitants

It is worth noting that, in addition to the Indians, eminent pirates were also noted in the park - Banister, Reckham, Cofresi.

The rugged coastline, with a large number of caves and grottoes, was a convenient shelter for ships and the looted wealth of "gentlemen of luck."

One of them - Willie Simons - lived here for many years, hiding from accomplices.

If someone decides to harm the natural resources of the park, he should think of ciguapas.

These mythical creatures come from Native American legends and represent women with long black hair and dark eyes, killing anyone who wants to damage the forests.

Based on the legend, the Dominicans even made a feature film very similar to The Blair Witch.
