Monte Cristi Tropical Islands - Mangroves - Ocean Fishing
Description:
Monte Christi National Park
The city of Monte Christi is located on the plateau of the El Morpo mountain range, which is located in the northwest of the country. Currently, it is a quiet provincial town, which is home to about 20 thousand inhabitants. In the city, time goes slowly, and Monto Christi welcomes its guests with houses in the Victorian style, the ancient Plaza de Reloch with its attraction - the clock tower, whose clock beats time every 15 minutes.
A small but very beautiful natural attraction and pride of the city is the Monte Cristi National Park, covering an area of 530 square kilometers. This park is an attractive place for ecotourists. It is located in the northwest of the Dominican Republic and is a border zone with Haiti. The park is located in one of the driest areas of the country, so rains here throughout the year are very rare. Various natural areas can be seen in the park, including a dry subtropical zone, mangroves and the island nature of a group of nearby small islands called the Seven Brothers. They are also of interest to nature lovers, as they have virgin nature, snow-white beaches and a huge number of birds flying to the islands for nesting.
There are a lot of them in May. That's when there's a lot of work for ornithologists. Sea turtles chose the beaches of the islands for procreation. Every year they bury their eggs in the sand to breed. For divers, the northern part of Monte Cristi National Park is a real paradise you can only dream of. The coral reefs of Monte Christi Park are considered the best preserved in the Dominican Republic. Here at the bottom of the bay is a cemetery of sunken ships of 180 sailboats.
