Ardoukoba volcano
Ardoukoba, Tadjourah, Djibouti / Djibouti
Description:
Ardoukoba Volcano is located above Lake Assal in the highly seismically active region of Djibouti. In 1978, the volcano erupted within a week. The reason was a rather strong earthquake. It was the first eruption of the Arboucoba volcano in 3,000 years. As a result of the eruption, a huge crater thirty meters wide was formed. It is now perfectly safe to climb to the top of the volcano, although small earthquakes occur every 20 to 30 years.
It is these climbs that attract tourists here. Old and new lava fields, huge stones, rock fragments look very picturesque. Sometimes lava flows formed completely unexpected piles and figures. On the slopes of the volcano you can see small herds of gazelles wandering along steep paths. From the top of the volcano offers a really stunning view of the surrounding area, on Lake Assal and Lac Goube, on the surrounding hills. The soils here are of different shades, which creates completely unusual, unexpected landscapes.
Getting to the volcano Ardoukoba is most convenient from the capital Djibouti, the trip here will take only a few hours in a good, reliable road car. As a rule, one trip combines a visit to lakes Assal and Lak Goube, and also the volcano Ardoukoba.
