National Flag Day of Ecuador

Description:

National Flag of Ecuador
The flag of Ecuador, which consists of horizontal stripes of yellow (double width), blue and red, was adopted on September 26, 1860.

The yellow color on the Ecuadorian flag symbolizes the sunshine, fertility of the land, natural wealth, fields of wheat and corn, the welfare of the country; blue - the sky, rivers and the Pacific Ocean; red - the blood of patriots shed in the struggle for freedom.

In Ecuador, unlike other countries, there is a special municipal flag that is displayed at official local institutions. This is a simplified version of the national flag, on which the coat of arms is replaced by a circle of white stars, the number of which corresponds to the number of provinces.

The flag of Ecuador bears a strong resemblance to the flag of Colombia and the flag of Venezuela, which are also former members of Gran Colombia.
