Good Friday

Description:

Good Friday.
One of the most grandiose events for the religious community of Ecuador is the procession that takes place on Good Friday. This procession commemorates the death of Jesus Christ on the cross.

Tens of thousands of people dressed in purple robes, purple high hats and masks resembling the Ku Klux Klan fill the historic center of the capital of Ecuador and spread through the streets of a solemn motley "mass." An integral attribute of this procession are colorful scenes.

In the festive procession there are people dressed in white robes, crowns of thorns on their heads, and chains on their necks and around their legs. These participants carry huge wooden crosses on their backs. They are accompanied by participants dressed as Roman soldiers. The procession begins at noon and ends at three.
