LaCompany Church

Ecuador. Quito.

Description:

The Church of La Company, built in the Baroque style, is considered the richest Christian temple in all of Latin America. Its construction began in 1605, and was completed only in the 18th century.

It is claimed that the Church of La Company is an attempt by the art school of Quito to create its own Sistine Chapel.

Lush and luxurious decoration of the facade demonstrates the strength and wealth of European conquerors. The interior of the church is designed in golden and purple tones. Historians claim that 6.4 tons of gold was spent on the interior decoration. The main altar and ten altars in the side niches are very generously decorated with sheet gold. Confessions and the department amaze with their original wood carving.

In general, the church gives the impression of a gallery of the art school of Quito, which is admired to this day. The painted vaults of the church of La Company are rightly considered the answer of the Quito school to the world-famous Sistine Chapel.
