Ambuki Valley
Description:
From a bird's-eye view, the Ambuca Valley, which stretches in the province of Imbabura in northern Ecuador, resembles a patchwork blanket woven from blue lakes, mountain peaks covered with snow and many maize and reed fields.
The main part of the population of the valley are Indian tribes, who did not dare to change their centuries-old life to a more modern and civilized one. They continue to live, strictly observing the customs and traditions of their ancestors.
Local Indians are good farmers who, in addition to the usual grains and vegetables, grow sugar cane. The plantations of the latter occupy a significant area of the Ambuki Valley. Harvesting an excellent harvest is facilitated by fertile soil, which seems gray from the volcanic ash covering it.
