Mount Nariz del Diablo

Nariz del Diablo, Riobamba, Ecuador

Description:

Naris del Diablo is a mountain located in Ecuador and interesting to tourists because it can be reached by old railway. In honor of this mountain and named the route starting in the city of Riobamba, which is remarkable this route can be overcome both on the train and on its roof.

Unfortunately, in the second half of the XX century, most of the road was destroyed by earthquakes and the authorities decided not to restore it in full (already enough developed road transport), and leave a small stretch as an attraction for tourists.

On both sides of the railway you can see the picturesque landscapes of Ecuador.

The road passes through many peasant farms, and some villagers use the train as a means of transportation. There are several official stops on the colorful route, and the greatest attention is attracted, of course, by the Devil’s Nose mountain, along which part of the path passes.

The farthest point of the route is the unfinished Sibamba station - a monument to the destroyed railway, on which the train turns and heads back to Riobamba.
