Piranium River

Ecuador

Description:

The Piranium River, in Ecuador, in South America, better known as Panyacu, has its name for good reason. This tributary of the Amazon is literally teeming with predatory fish. The river itself is quite turbulent and fast, so it is popular among tourists: it can be rafted on kayaks, but the main thing is not to swim, it is more than dangerous, because piranhas are not just a predator, but also very voracious fish.

The adult piranha is a fairly large fish, silvery with a purple tint. Her teeth are triangular and arranged so that the teeth of the upper jaw exactly enter the grooves between the teeth of the lower jaw. The force of compression of the jaws is also impressive: such a fish easily bites a stick thick in a human finger. Interestingly, piranhas can make different sounds. If the fish is removed from the water, it will begin to “bark”, and during fights for food, they make sounds similar to the drumbeat. These amazing sounds you can hear if you go for a walk along the Piranium River.
