Antisana volcano

Antisana, Napo, Ecuador

Description:

The volcano with the sonorous name Antisana is located in the Ecuadorian province of Napo, 50 kilometers southeast of the city of Quito, the capital of Ecuador. According to scientists, Antisana belongs to the type of old volcanoes, which suggests that it was formed a very long time ago and is old even for this type of mountain. The volcano has a height of 5753 meters and is covered by a glacier, under the ice its surface consists of frozen lavas.

Antisana is actually a very picturesque sight, especially if you examine it first at a distance, and then drive to the foot. The ice glows in the sun and gives the impression that it is not a small volcano bigger than it really is.

The last eruption of Antisan was in 1802, but now it is asleep and so many climbers come to Ecuador specifically to conquer this peak. For the first time, by the way, it was managed by the English explorer Edouard Wimper and the Italian climber Jean-Antoine Carrel, it happened on March 10, 1880.
