Kohaito

Description:

Kohaito is the oldest city found by archaeologists, which, according to wall paintings, was inhabited 5 thousand years ago BC. And its last inhabitants were here in the VI century AD.

According to experts, the city was a transit route between Aksum and Adulis, and it is possible that the city was also the summer capital of the empire.

A few excavations have made it possible to discover the temple of Mariam Huaquino and Sahira-dam. The ruins of the former city of Kohaito are 2500 meters above sea level. Wandering through the ruins, you can see drawings, inscriptions on the walls, and if you wish, you can hire a guide who will translate all this to you.

But despite the fact that the ancient city was discovered, the war that lasted for decades in Eritrea did not allow for the most in-depth excavations and to discover other secrets, historical facts of the ancient and unexplored city.
