Liberation Day from Fascism

Description:

In France, this day is declared a state holiday.
May 8, the day of the surrender of Nazi Germany, is celebrated in France as the Day of Victory over the common enemy - fascism.

In France, this day is declared a state holiday. Before each solemn ceremony, the Eternal Flame Committee checks the details of the protocol with the Elysee Palace to the smallest detail. As a rule, heads of state simply lay a wreath at the grave of a soldier, but President Jacques Chirac decided to add to the ceremony the rite of ignition of the eternal flame together with young lyceumists, which other presidents have not done before.

All surviving veterans attend the ceremony. With each of them, the president shakes hands. On this day, photos and interviews “Paulou”, as the war veterans were lovingly called, adorn the pages of leading French newspapers, they become heroes of television programs.
