Valentine's Day (All Lovers' Day)

Description:

This romantic holiday is celebrated by couples around the world.
This romantic holiday is celebrated by couples around the world. As you know, the name of this holiday was given by a simple Christian priest Valentine, who secretly married the lovers of legionnaires, for which he was executed. The fact is that the Roman emperor Claudius II very much respected military valor and issued a decree forbidding legionnaires to marry, because the married spends too much time in the family and is busy thinking not about the good of the empire and military valor.

The legend envelops a romantic flair and the very last days of Valentine’s life. According to legend, the jailer’s daughter fell in love with him. Valentine, as a priest who took a vow of celibacy, could not answer her feelings, but the night before the execution sent her a touching letter, which is considered the progenitor of the Valentine. It is not surprising that Valentine was not forgotten and was chosen as the patron of all lovers.

On this day and in France, lovers give each other valentines in the form of hearts with best wishes, declarations of love, a proposal of a hand and heart or simply jokes that they do not sign, and the recipient must guess who they are from. In addition, the couples give each other roses as a symbol of love, sweet hearts and other souvenirs depicting hearts, kissing birds and, of course, the recognized symbol of Valentine's Day - the little winged angel Cupid.

On this day, all cafes and restaurants are crowded: at each table at dinner and candles touching coo, holding hands, young and not so couples.

And the gallant French were the first to introduce “valentines” as love letters-quaternary.
