Saint Mauritius Cathedral
1 Place Freppel, Angers, France.
Description:
This Catholic cathedral was founded in 1032 by order of the bishops Norman de Dua and Guillaume de Beaumont. Before him, there was a church on this site, badly damaged during the fire. The cathedral is considered a monument of architecture. However, in addition to the building itself, its interior is considered unique. The cathedral has unique stained glass windows, which are recognized throughout the world as masterpieces of glass craft of the thirteenth century. At this time, the cathedral, along with the Cathedral of Amiens, claimed one of the most revered relics among Christians - the head of John the Baptist.
Today, the cathedral is the center of the diocese of Angers and is recognized as one of the national monuments of France.
