The Magical Provence of Van Gogh
Description:
“Everywhere you look, everything asks for a picture,” Vincent Van Gogh wrote to his brother Theo of Provence, who became for Van Gogh, a post-Impressionist, the “promised land.” Here the artist, fascinated and guided by the sun with his “high yellow note”, embarked on untrodden artistic paths and created in a short period – just two and a few years – about 300 paintings, many of which are indisputable masterpieces, radiating extraordinary energy, light and color. It was one of the most prolific and inspirational impulses of artistic creation ever to take place in the history of art. Van Gogh’s titanic work in Provence made him a genius in painting and for many years defined the creative horizons of world art.
How Provence influenced the artistic quest of Van Gogh and how the fame of the famous post-Impressionist raised the popularity of the historical region; where the artist created his masterpieces and who posed for his paintings; why the project “Workshop of the South” failed and what a tragic story happened in the Yellow House – we will talk about this and much more during our tour of the sunny roads of Provence – from Lamartine Square in Arles to the hospital Saint-Paul-de-Mosole in Saint-Remy-de-Provence.
During our tour you will walk through the narrow streets and picturesque squares of Arles, an ancient city with a rich history, see the majestic buildings of the Roman era and the Middle Ages, which at one time impressed Van Gogh. Walk the paths of the great artist and discover places from his famous masterpieces. "Meet" Van Gogh's friends, Madame Ginoux and Dr. Ray, from multiple street reproductions. Have a cup of coffee on the night terrace of the cafe. You will admire the colorful views of the Rhone, olive groves, orchards, wheat fields - amazing Provencal landscapes - an inexhaustible source of creativity of a genius. And finally you will visit the walls of the old monastery of Saint-Paul-de-Mosole, where Van Gogh voluntarily imprisoned himself and where his famous "Irises" were written.
Our tour will last 3-4 hours if you stay in Arles, and 5-6 hours with departure from Marseille or Aix-en-Provence.
