Fesh Museum in Ajaccio
Rue Cardinal Fesch, 50-52, Ajaccio, France
About the company:
The Fez Museum is the second largest museum after the Louvre. It contains a collection of masterpieces of French, Italian, Dutch and Spanish painting of the XIX century.
The museum was built by order of Cardinal Joseph Fesch, Napoleon’s maternal uncle. Throughout his life, the cardinal, thanks to his high position in society, bought exhibits at various exhibitions and auctions. During the Napoleonic Wars alone, Fesch collected nearly 3,000 paintings, which made up most of the collection on four themes: history, religion, mythology, and still life.
The most famous works are represented by such artists as Titian, Botticelli, Bellini, Lorenzo de Credi, Veronese.
Not far from the museum is a chapel built by order of Napoleon III for the burial of the remains of Bonaparte.
The museum is open daily. The ticket price is 8 euros.
