Church of Notre Da n
11 Rue de la Chouette, 21,000 Dijon, France
Description:
The Church of Notre-Dame in Dijon, built in 1250, or the Church of Our Lady on the Trade, stands out from the slender series of French cathedrals of Notre-Dame. It is located near the ducal palace. Dijon Notre Dame has a non-standard entrance in the form of a carved triple arch in the Venetian style. From the facade, two rows of gargoyles look at passers-by, and the main decorations of the church are the weather vane and the Jacquemart hammer clock, made in 1392 and brought to Dijon from Flanders. However, the most popular place for tourists is one of the walls of the cathedral, on which there is a small sculpture of an owl. There is a belief that if you touch it with your left hand and make a wish, it will surely come true.
In the interior of the temple, visitors are amazed by two magnificent stained glass windows of the XIII century, restored in the XIX century. Despite the fact that they have undergone reconstruction, some of the stained glass windows have preserved the original filling. Small frescoes in the Rococo style also deserve special attention.
