Freedom Square in Dijon

Place de la Lib ration, 21000 Dijon, France

Description:

Freedom Square is located in the heart of the city. Here is the famous palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, whose names are associated with the flowering of the political and cultural life of the region. The beautiful building, the classical facade of which hides earlier buildings, closes the square in a semi-ring. Today, part of the palace is occupied by the city hall, the other is given to the Museum of Fine Arts. Fans of painting will be pleasantly surprised by the richness and variety of the collection presented in it. Paintings of Titian, Rubens, Manet, Monet, a collection of "small" Dutch - a rare museum can boast such names.

Climbing to the observation deck of the palace tower, you can see the entire historical center of Dijon, and in clear weather - the peaks of the Alps. In 1725, a monument to Louis XIV was erected in the center of the square, but it was melted down during the French Revolution.

Near Liberty Square is the Dijon Opera House, one of the most significant European scenes, the hall of which accommodates more than three thousand spectators. Around the square are the most expensive restaurants and cafes of Dijon. The dishes served in them will please the taste of any gourmet.

Fountains have recently been beating on the square itself: jets of water escape directly from the ground, forming a low water wall. At night, they are illuminated with colored lights.
