Town Hall in Aix-en-Provence
Aix-en-Provence (in the Old Town quarters, north of Mirabeau Boulevard), France
Description:
Built in the sixteenth century, the town hall with a Gothic clock tower of the 16th century is one of the most interesting sights of Aix-en-Provence.
The foundation of the town hall has been preserved since Roman times. The tower is decorated with a bust of Louis XIII, erected in honor of the visit of the monarch to Aix. The architecture of the town hall is inspired by Italian buildings, the sculptural design belongs to the masters Rambo and Fosse. The facade was richly decorated, but most of the decor was destroyed during the Revolution. Preserved doors of carved wood and courtyard.
On the first floor of the town hall, in the main hall there are paintings on historical subjects, portraits of the Counts of Provence and French kings.
