Aix-en-Provence Cathedral
Description:
The cathedral was built in the 12th century, but since then has undergone a number of restoration works and reconstructions, and therefore only part of the baptistery has survived to this day. The construction of the facade continued for many years, and was completely completed only in the early 16th century. Striking the imagination not only for its dimensions, but also for the beauty of architectural solutions, this cathedral has long become popular among tourists. Inside you can see the famous triptych “The Burning Cupin”, created by Nicolas Froman in the 15th century. The cloister of the cathedral, built in the 12th century to accommodate canons, is decorated with four columns located at the corners, which depict four religious symbols of the evangelists: angel, lion, calf and eagle.
