Church of Archangel Michael
Description:
The Church of Archangel Michael is one of the Orthodox churches located on Alexander III Boulevard.
The church was built in 1894. The project was designed by French architect Louis Nouveau. Earlier on the site of the construction of the church were two ancient temples, from which only the clock bell of the XV century has survived. The modern bell tower was created in the XVIII century.
The facade of the building consists of two floors. In the niches there are statues of St. Michael, St. Maurice and St. Roche. Inside the church is decorated in the classical Baroque style. Behind the altar is an image of St. Michael painted by Andre Mancello. In the temple there is a shroud, which is carried on Holy Thursday through the streets.
Today thousands of pilgrims come to the church to touch the relics of the saints.
