Colmar's indoor market
13 Rue des coles, 68,000 Colmar, France
Description:
Colmar’s indoor market is one of the most interesting places in the Kozhevniki area. It was built in the middle of the XIX century directly on the river Loche by the project of the famous Alsatian sculptor and architect Louis-Michel Bolz.
In ancient times, merchants sailed to the central entrance of the bazaar by boat, where they unloaded their goods slowly. The building was built of sandstone and brick with a stable metal frame, which rested on high cast-iron columns. Such indoor markets are one of the important attractions of France, as they provide an opportunity not only to buy fresh fruits and high-quality clothes, but also to get acquainted with everyday life and traditions of local residents.
At the Colmar indoor market you can buy everything from good strong wine to Franco-German delicacies and Alsatian cheese. In September 2010, a major reconstruction was carried out, after which the market became even more attractive. You can visit it every day except Sunday and Monday.
