Lyon - UNESCO Legacy
Description:
On the site of modern Lyon, more than 2000 years ago, a Roman colony was founded, which would later become one of the largest cities of the Roman Empire.
A radical turn in the fate of the city occurs after the fall of the Roman Empire. Residents have to adapt to other conditions of life and its realities. Gradually, the inhabitants left the Roman city located on a hill and founded a quarter on the banks of the Sona, which is now called old Lyon (Le vieux Lyon).
The heyday of this quarter falls on the 14th-15th century - the era of the great Lyon fairs. The cultural, political and economic elite of that period was concentrated in Lyon.
After the difficult 17th century, Lyon will begin to develop again, thanks in part to the flourishing of silk production.
The sightseeing tour includes the main architectural monuments of the city and covers all periods of its development.
