Opening of Lyon, sightseeing tour in Lyon
Description:
Founded by the Romans in 43 BC, today Lyon is the third largest city in France and the center of the country's second largest urban agglomeration. Lyon is located on two rivers: the Rhone and the Sonja. Without a doubt, Lyon is a multifaceted city. It is the birthplace of the famous Lyon silk weavers, the invention of cinema, rich gastronomic traditions and, of course, a magnificent architectural heritage, because Lyon, with its old city is under the protection of UNESCO. All my excursions around Lyon include a visit to the studio of Lyon weavers, where you will have a unique opportunity to see the work of looms with a two-hundred-year history and take photographs as a souvenir with a Lyon weaver. The sightseeing tour begins on the central square of Lyon - Belcourt, located on the peninsula, between the Rhone and Son. After inspecting Belcourt, we cross the bridge over Sona and climb the funicular to the Fourvière Hill, where the history of Lyon began at the time of its foundation, in 43 BC. On the Fourvière hill we will definitely visit the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière of the late XIX century, paying special attention to the gilded statue of the Virgin Mary and the metal tower of Fourvière. From the panoramic platform on the top of the hill opens a wonderful view of Lyon - a great place for photographs to remember! Having visited the famous ancient theaters, we will continue our tour along Sonja, in the quarter of Old Lyon. This unique medieval and Renaissance city quarter attracts visitors to Lyon with its rich history. We will begin our discovery of the old city with the Cathedral of St. John. Old Lyon is full of hidden courtyards and passageways inside houses called trabules. In these secluded courtyards and passages often hide the pearls of the architecture of Flaming Gothic and Renaissance. Then, on the opposite bank of Sona, a fresco of famous Lyons awaits us. On the Terro Square, we will stop at the fountain of the famous sculptor Bartholdi, as well as the city hall of the XVII century and the former monastery of St. Peter, today the Museum of Fine Arts. Passing through the City Opera Square, we will find ourselves on the banks of the Rhone. From here we will see the tops of Lyon skyscrapers in the modern part of the city, as a reminder of the wonderful view from the panoramic platform on the Fourvière Hill. Here we will end our journey through the ages, in a city with more than two thousand years of history! See you in Lyon!
With respect, Xenia.
