Chapel of the victims of the Revolution

Lyon, France

Description:

The appearance of the Chapel of the Victims of the Revolution in Lyon is connected with the events of the bourgeois revolution.

Most of the inhabitants of Lyon categorically refused to accept the revolution, and the Convention decreed the destruction of the city.

On the left bank of the Rhône River, which was drained before the revolution so that the city could develop in this direction, about two thousand Lyons were shot by the army of the Convention. The phrase “He who is not with us is against us” was executed. In memory of this event, the Chapel of the Victims of the Revolution was later built on the site where the terrible execution took place. Its altar is made of the skulls and bones of the executed inhabitants of Lyon. Visiting this place makes a strong impression.
