Pink Tower

69001 Lyon, France, Old Town

Description:

A favorite and frequently visited place in Lyon is La Tour Rose, which means the Rose Tower. The construction of the tower began in the XVII century, architect Sebastian Serlio.

In the tower is a staircase, which is decorated with semicircular arched windows. Since the main function of the tower was to give an alarm, mainly in case of fire, the stairwell was completed by a guard post. After years, the top of the tower was decorated with teeth. In the courtyard of the tower, there is an inconspicuous, nailed door - this is the place where the association of Lyon humorists meets. Outside the door, a large troupe begins, which exits on the opposite bank of the Sona.

There are legends about the pink color of the tower. One of them knows about the tragic fate of a girl who was forbidden to marry her beloved. In protest to her parents, she threw herself from the tower, spraying her with blood. But if we move away from the legend, then in fact, the color of the tower is associated with the preparation of it as a scenery, in the filming of the movie “Three Musketeers”. Since then, the color of the tower has not changed.

The pink tower adorns numerous postcards of Lyon and photos of tourists from different countries.
