Modern Marseille – Capital of Culture

Description:

The building is very interesting.

Marseille was elected European Capital of Culture in 2013.

In Marseille, where everything begins with the sea and the port, a very serious reconstruction of the embankments of the Old Port was carried out.

A huge amount of work has been done, and construction work is still ongoing in some areas.

On June 7, 2013, the main event of this significant year for Marseille took place: the opening of the MUSEM Museum (MUCEM). Its construction lasted 4 years, and the total cost of work is 167 million euros. The Museum of Civilizations of Europe and the Mediterranean (MUCEM) is located in a building with an ultra-modern architecture on the beach. The original idea of architect Rudy Riciotti (who is also the author of a new department of the Louvre dedicated to the art of Islam) is a complex multi-level project that combines the old Fort Saint-Jean, built in the 17th century with a new exhibition modern building of the museum. The building was immediately conceived as a local Guggenheim architectural landmark, which in itself can become an occasion for a trip to the city. Another very interesting building is the Concert Hall Le Silo de Marseille, a rebuilt old port elevator. The construction was completed by 2013, as part of the events of Marseille, the cultural capital of Europe. Today there are musical and theatrical performances, there is a school of classical dance.
