Park Boreli Park

18 Avenue du Parc Borely, 13008 Marseille, France.

Description:

Boreli Park is the most beloved and visited among Marseilles. For many years it has been customary to come here with families, to bring children for a walk - this has become a kind of ritual that allows tired urban residents to plunge into the calm atmosphere of the last century.

Boreli Park was laid out in the XVII century at the expense of the rich Marseille shipowner and merchant Joseph Boreli. The first work on the creation of the park ensemble was carried out by the engineer and architect Embry, starting in 1775. In the middle of the XIX century, the park was bought by the city and replanned by Adolph Alfand, a landscape architect from Paris, who divided the park into three parts - an English park, a French garden and a racetrack. In this form, the park still exists today.

The alleys of the park are very popular among runners and lovers of sports walking, mothers and babies often walk here - there are few cars around, the park is perfectly blown with fresh wind from the sea, the air is filled with the aromas of the plants of the Botanical Garden located here. In the park you can ride a bicycle, and you can organize a boat trip on the lake. A special place in the park is occupied by the rose garden - during flowering this place resembles a paradise.

In the central part, in front of the Boreli Palace, there is a luxurious fountain with a wonderful sculptural group and powerful water jets. It is turned off only in winter, the rest of the time it perfectly complements the park ensemble, creating a holistic composition.
