Isle of Ile du Frio
Description:
The island of Ile du Frioul is one of the islands of the archipelago of the same name, located near Marseille. Once there was an outpost of defense of the city, and now there is a magnificent nature reserve. The climate on the island is very dry – there is even less rain than in Marseille. Lush greenery is absent in the local region due to the constant strong winds, but Friule presents all specimens of the flora of Provence, including the rarest endemic species. On the hills and mountains of the island you can walk for hours, admiring the magnificent nature, swimming in secluded deserted places and exploring the mysterious ruins.
On the way to Île du Friule, guides will tell you where the Phoceans, Etruscans, Normans and Romans came from, as well as how the unique local warning system through watchtowers worked. Then they will show you the entrance to a beautiful underwater cave with wall inscriptions from the late Paleolithic era, where the local authorities will soon open a museum. Not far from the island are two sunken Greek ships, which once explored the great traveler Jacques-Yves-Cousteau. On the east side of Friul, tourists have a view of the site of the death of Saint-Exupéry.
