Statue of David

Located at the corner of Avenue Prado and Georges Pompidou, Marseille, France

Description:

In Marseille, in addition to the attributes of imperial and metropolitan urbanism, there is also a David - a copy of the original statue installed on the rotunda near the coast. And if the original sculpture is crowded in the museum, and a copy of it languishes in a rather narrow space near the Palazzo Vecchia in Florence, then the marble handsome man in Marseille is at ease - he bathes in the breath of the sea breeze and the rays of sunlight.

This copy of the Michelangel statue was sculpted by the sculptor Jules Canini, using Carrara marble for his work. The statue was originally placed in a square in the city center, called Auguste Fran ois Carli, in the Museum of Fine Arts, but in 1951 it was moved to its current location.
