19 rue Grignan, 13006 Marseille

About the company:

The Cantini Museum is located in Marseille and houses one of France’s largest state collections of contemporary art, mostly covering the period 1900-1960. The museum is housed in a building acquired by Giulio Cantini in 1888.

Cantini bequeathed the building and its collection to the city of Marseille. In 1916 the will was executed and in 1936 the museum was opened to visitors. The Cantini Museum houses one of the largest public collections of contemporary art in France, mainly covering the period 1900-1960.

There are such artistic styles as Fauvism (Charles Camouane), early Cubism (Raul Dufy, Albert Gleise, Henri Laurent), geometric abstraction (Kandinsky, Frantisek Kupka, Jean Helion, Alberto Manelli) and Surrealism (Max Ernst, Victor Brauner, Juan Miro, Jean Arp). The mansion, which houses the Kantini Museum, was built in 1694 for the Cap Negre company, specializing in coral mining and the sale of wool and leather.
