Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology
2 rue de la Charite, Marseille, France | Centre de la Vieille Charit, le Panier
About the company:
Among the interesting museums of Marseille is the Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology. It is located in the center of the old quarter of Panye in the famous building of the XVII century, in the former almshouse Viej Charita.
Among the exhibits of the museum are unique objects of ancient civilizations from the Celts-Liturgians, who lived in the III century BC, to the ancient Greeks. They clearly show the main stages in the history of the development of the Mediterranean coast. It is a legacy of both the Stone Age, the Bronze Age, the Early Iron Age and the Middle Ages.
Of particular interest is the miraculously preserved collection of Ancient Egypt. It illustrates Egyptian traditions from the Old Kingdom to the very appearance of Coptic Christians.
The Marseille Museum of Mediterranean Archaeology is considered one of the best museums in southern France, as the ancient artifacts presented here exist in a single copy and deserve special attention.
