Peyru Park
Place Royale du Peyrou, 34,000 Montpellier, France
Description:
Peyroux Park was established in the center of Montpellier in honor of King Louis XIV. The terraces of the park were built between 1688 and 1784, and in 1768 there appeared a majestic "water castle", designed by the architect Jean-Antoine Giral. The "Water Castle" was a water tower, thanks to which water came from the spring of St. Clement to the city.
The real symbol of the park was the equestrian statue of King Louis XIV, which was installed in the park in 1718. During the French Revolution, the statue was demolished but restored in 1838.
Several picturesque alleys with fountains perfectly complement the picture of the park, one of the pearls of Montpellier. From the observation decks of Peyroux Park, there is a magnificent view of the city and its surroundings. Walking here can be done at any time of the day, as the park is not closed at night. This is a beautiful place that causes admiration and adds a special charm to the city.
