Port de la Cruff Castle

9 Rue de la Citadelle, 54000 Nancy, France

Description:

Port de la Craf is a majestic monument of medieval architecture and one of the popular attractions of Nancy. Located in the historic part of the city, the Port de la Craf Gate is the only surviving part of the medieval defensive fortifications. There was a prison here for a long time.

The gate, which once opened the entrance to the city from the north, was built in the XIV century. They are made in the Gothic style and are two powerful round towers reminiscent of German fortifications. In the XVII century, the gate, as well as the city fortifications, were reconstructed - the court architect worked on the project. After another two centuries, the gate received a new Baroque roof and lighting.
