Jules Verne Nantes Museum
3, Rue De l'Hermitage, Nantes 44100
About the company:
The museum, dedicated to the personality and work of the writer Jules Verne, was opened in 1978, in honor of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the writer. The museum was opened in Nantes, where the famous French writer was born.
This major city and university center is located at the mouth of the Loire. The presence of islets on the river, inhabited since the seventeenth century, contributed to the construction of bridges, making Nantes a trading and transport center between Lower Brittany and Poitou.
The museum contains manuscripts of 98 novels, novels, plays and other works by Jules Verne. These manuscripts open a wide field for the study of the writer’s work. Since 1955, his works have been the object of research, as part of the tasks of the Center for the Study of Creativity in the City Library of Nantes. Collections are regularly replenished with the works of Jules Verne and the results of research about him, including the descendants of his family.
In 1966, the heirs of his younger sister donated his first literary essays. The pride of the museum, thanks to Jean-Jules Verne, his grandson, is the living room furniture of his house and his compass. Among the numerous exhibits of the museum are the personal belongings of the writer, objects that inspire him to create his works.
