During this pleasant walk we will see the largest lavender field in Provence, which is located on the picturesque Valensol plateau. We will be greeted by an endless ocean of flowering lavender of all shades, from blue to purple!

I am often asked, “When does lavender bloom?” The answer to this question depends on the characteristics of the season: the nature of spring can greatly affect the timing of flowering. But on average, this period falls on June-July. Those who want to take beautiful photos without fail, it is better to choose the period from late June to mid-July. Lavender in some fields can persist until August, but by then it dries up and the shades lose their brightness. In addition, it is necessary to take into account the fact that, ultimately, lavender fields bloom in order to become raw materials for the perfume and pharmacological industry. Accordingly, farmers will not take into account the interests of tourists and will mow lavender when it is convenient for them.

Excursion programme

We will drive the “Dear Napoleon” along the picturesque forests and villages of Upper Provence by stopping at observation platforms with a pretentious view of the Verdon Gorge.

We will visit the mountain village of Mustier Sant Marie. It is officially recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
